Description:
This course is designed to help professionals that work with
Spanish-speaking students, clients and parents. The. Spanish-speaking
population in New York is increasing and the number of bilingual
professionals is limited. Although the majority of us do not speak
Spanish, it is beneficial to learn basic Spanish related to our
profession.
Learner Outcomes:
As a result of this course, the participant will learn in Spanish:
common category vocabulary, functional commands, anatomical
terminology and oral motor/articulation prompts.
Presenter:
Penny Chesner-Morris, M.A., CCC-SLP is a New York State licensed
speech-language pathologist at Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI)
in Huntington. She services pre-school-aged children in the
culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) classrooms. Her therapy
sessions are conducted in both English and basic Spanish. Penny
recently visited a speech clinic in Puebla, Mexico where she enhanced
her vocabulary and clinical skills. Penny is also a speech-language
pathologist for Beacon Therapy Services where she provides
intervention for developmentally delayed adults. She received her
B.A. and M.A. from SUNY Buffalo.
